A. Lee Edwards has been at this for 30 years. Music has never been a side project for him — it's the whole thing.
His latest work comes in two volumes: Interpreting Heart Sounds Vol. I and Vol. II. Both recorded at Echo Mountain Recording Studios in Asheville, NC. Mixed by John Wood — the same guy behind the boards for Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, and Richard and Linda Thompson. That's not a name you drop casually.
Vol. 1 is a full band record. Vol. 2 pulls back — stripped down, with strings added. Two different moods, one cohesive statement.
Richard Thompson shows up on Vol. 1, playing on "John on the Run." If you know who that is, you understand why it matters. If you don't, look him up.
This is Edwards' seventh album overall. Three came out under the name Lou Ford, two as The Loudermilks. He knows how to make a record. These two suggest he's still getting better at it.
Catch him live at Belle's Winery & Saloon in Apalachicola.
